The Bottom of the Pot

Aug 29, 2025

Last week I brewed a pot of coffee and forgot about it.

Hours later I poured the last cup. It was bitter, flat, and tasted like cardboard.

Normally I would have tossed it and gone for something fresh. But I was in the middle of work, so I just drank it.

And you know what? It still did the job. I was awake, focused, and kept going.

We chase the perfect cup — precise grind, filtered water, exact temperature. But most of the time it doesn’t matter. Even the worst cup can get you through the day.

Perfection is nice. Progress is better.

Links I liked this week

Baratza Encore Grinder - reliable starter burr grinder, nothing fancy but built to last

Fellow Stagg Kettle - sleek and precise, makes your morning routine feel intentional.

The Monk of Mokha - a wild true story about Yemeni coffee and chasing a dream.

PS: Tried a new Ethiopian roast from a local spot this week. Blueberry notes on the bag, blueberry notes in the cup. For once the marketing matched reality.
