This used to be the newsletter of my book, Playing Software. From now on, it will be the newsletter of what I am working on during my sabbatical. I am in Barcelona for the academic year 2024-2025. I have way too many projects. This newsletter will record them. I want to write some ideas out loud, as sketchy drafts, or more thoroughly before they become fossilized in articles, grant proposals, or books. I will not publish this newsletter on a fixed schedule, whatever that means for my engagement metrics. I will write on whims, recording what interests me and catches my attention.
Fiestas de la Villa de Gr What am I doing during my sabbatical? Well, here’s a short list: thinking about roguelikes, speculating how the future will see our software age, learning a new game engine, ranting about “ethics and AI” or whatever that is called now, making ridiculous software, considering the question of method in my practice, watching and writing football, and reflecting on videogame design and national identities. Some of that will make it here. Eventually. Until next time.
