Week 23. Confidence Is Not Certainty

Jun 7, 2026

“The future has a habit of embarrassing predictions.”

- LinkedIn post by Sandra Dajic

Confidence Is Not Certainty

We've all been there. We make a prediction, feel confident about it, and then something unexpected happens.

History and data can help us make better decisions. They give us confidence that certain outcomes are more likely than others. Yet they can never tell us exactly what will happen next.

That is what makes this quote interesting. Predictions are often wrong, not because people are foolish, but because the future is shaped by events we cannot fully anticipate.

In a way, it is a good thing that predictions fail. If the future always followed the past, there would be little room for innovation, change, or progress. The unexpected can be frustrating, but it is also what makes the future different from history.
