“Be curious, not judgmental.”- Ted Lasso, Ted Lasso The Part We Do Not SeeRecently, Lindsay and I started watching Ted Lasso. We expected a feel good comedy, but found thoughtful ideas beneath the humour. This quote stayed with me. Children ask about everything. As we grow older, experience gives us opinions and expectations. Sometimes, these make us feel we understand people before we really know them. Someone acts differently from how we would, and we quickly decide they are rude, careless, or unreasonable. We see their behaviour, but may know little about what led to it. Asking a question gives them room to explain. Their answer might not change our opinion, but it could reveal something we had missed. The difficult part is staying curious when we already feel certain. It means listening without simply looking for proof that we were right. Before deciding what someone is like, perhaps we can try to understand them. #Curiosity #Empathy #TedLasso |
