Jonesy Bones, As much as I try not to (have a life) sometimes one creeps up on me. I’ve been to the sweetest wedding – Karen and Sedgewick. You don’t know them. It doesn’t matter. The important thing is the place they chose for the reception. Some mad genius found an undestroyed section, a corner really, of – you won’t believe this, Jonesy – an actual Amazon warehouse. Amazon! (From our first-year module, Intro to the Fall of Civilisation.) Instant crush on the building obviously. Then we went inside AND IT ALL WORKED! The buffet came by on the original conveyer belt. Ancient robots that used to collect the orders served the drinks. It was like being in the heart of the belly of consumerism back when belly enclosed the whole planet. But in a sweet way. Because it was all lit with fairy lights and candles and the food was perfect. I know you hate me for telling you this, Jonesy, but try not to – there is a reason: When I was several drinks in and catching my breath between dances, I started to think about the warehouse in the old times, when the robots were fetching and packing headphones and shower heads and everything else made by machines then hauled over here on autonomous ships then delivered by drones. And I imagined what it would be like to own something that had never been touched by another person and how lonely that must have been. Ff PS Come to London this weekend. You need to get out. |
