Hi Friends! Spring is officially here, but she forgot to warm up the air. It's a brisk 51ºF in Park Slope as I write this email the day after I served on the jury of a murder trial. I know, right? I've been quiet about it, and even as our silence has been freed from the clutches of secrecy, I find myself processing that twelve people found a man accused of murder guilty. If you know me, you know that I'm a huge fan of crime shows, both true and fictional. I have no qualms seeing pixelated blood-soaked wounds often shown in photos of police evidence or life-like murder depictions in an old episode of CSI. But nothing prepared me for the unedited body cam footage of a man with a hole in his chest gasping for breath in a heap of trash on a Brooklyn sidewalk or for autopsy photos of the damage left behind by two bullet wounds. I had to callout today to give myself space to process the last ten days in court.
But enough of my uneventful paid time away from work to perform my civic duty. The Fruitstand has been busy with lookie-loos checking out the new laptop Apple launched. The MacBook Neo is the latest addition to the tech giant's lineup. And yes, I'm guilty. I caved without seeing the Citrus in person and pre-ordered it. And then I instantly regretted not seeing it first and thinking it would look like someone took a neon yellow highlighter and went to town. I was wrong. Whew. Not only is the Citrus a lovely, soft lime, it really does suit my needs for the little I do online: surfing the web and writing emails. Check, check. Plus with my employee discount and my trade-in, it only cost me $80. (Yes, that's one zero.) Have you heard of Luckin Coffee? It's my current obsession. 10/10 would recommend their signature Coconut Latte, hot or cold. They're only in New York and seem to be taking over the locations Starbucks abandoned. Don't get me wrong. I love me some little coffee shops. I live in Brooklyn! But when I'm in the city and I need to choose between the Mermaid or the Deer? The deer wins. Anyhoo. I hope you are well and finding time to breathe. Robert and I are taking our babies to the park today so we can go touch grass. You should, too. Be well. Tight hugs to you and yours,
