Week 25. Summer's Permission

Jun 21, 2026

“Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.”

- Sam Keen

Summer's Permission

Today is the first day of summer. It is the longest day of the year, and it also happens to be Lindsay's birthday. 🎂🎂🎂-🎂🎂

There is something special about summer. The days are longer, people spend more time outside, and life feels a little less rushed. In the Netherlands, summer is especially enjoyable because the weather is usually warm without becoming unbearable.

What I like about this quote is that it captures a seasonal shift in mindset. During most of the year, being busy is often seen as a virtue. In summer, slowing down feels more acceptable. People stay out late to watch the sunset, take holidays, and spend time with friends and family.

Perhaps that is why summer feels different. It gives us permission to pause for a moment and enjoy where we are instead of always focusing on what comes next.

If you enjoyed this quote, forward it to someone who might appreciate it.
