What's up?

Shout out to you for replying to my previous email. The responses have been overwhelming and if I've learned one thing it's that a life without a crisis isn't a life worth living hahaha. I guess Blaise Pascal was right when he allegedly said; "all of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone." Then again, no one gets better in isolation. Healing is an act of communion, even though it takes roughly 150 years for a man to grow the fuck up.

So, here we are. Still around. Writing, sharing, connecting people like Nokia.

A story that I found particularly inspiring is about ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U. Back in 2016, he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. On the same day, he left his job in construction and decided to pour his energy entirely into music, finding purpose and intensity in DJing that became central to his survival. Yukimatsu’s story, surviving brain cancer, choosing music over safety, and channeling mortality into next level mixes has elevated him to some cult status. The comment section of this Boiler Room mix is pure gold; "This guy could mix Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia". You can never guess what song is coming!

I guess the lesson is that you can always re-invent yourself. Also when you're not battling disease.

Something that might help kickstart that process of transformation is visiting the Dutch Design Week. From the 18th of October, Eindhoven is the stage for a nine-day creative madness. Don't mind the boomers here. They only visit on Sundays. Inspiration is the goal, curiousity is the attitude. You got this!

Now, let's continue with some links to visit online, browsing the web like back in the days when you had to dial in on your pentium pc and took Netscape for a ride.

  • Check out Eternal Afternoon. An indie-game about wasting time before the end of the world.

  • Check out I Can't Afford This But Maybe She Can! The long distance shopping list of British creative director George Wu and French artist Malika Favre.

  • Check out Doomscrollr. It's the closest thing you can get to Tumblr, but with new fun features and the possibility to capture your audience instead of renting it.

  • Check out Space, a new app to manage your time and to-do's. I know, there's tons of apps for todos and you're probably out of time already. But maybe... this is working?

  • Check out Planet DAO. Such an interesting way to co-own Japan's hidden assets. We need more of those community powered initiatives before private equity steals everything!

  • Check out how a digital coup looks like. Carole Cadwalladr explains how we are watching the collapse of the international order in real time.

  • Check out the Creative Independent. A growing resource of emotional and practical guidance for creative people.

  • Check out Dreamrecorder. A magical bedside device that catches your nightly visions and plays them back as vivid, cinematic reels. All open source and something you can build on your own!

  • Check out Predictive History. How much of the future can be predicted? The whole YT channel has been my curriculum for a while now.

  • Check out both Wij Zijn Beleid and Zweefhulp if you're Dutch and plan to vote in the upcoming elections.

Don't you even think of givin' up!
